How are you cheaper than other New England movers?
It comes down to overhead. We do not run a flashy downtown showroom or pad your hourly bill, and we never tack on fuel surcharges or surprise stair fees. We keep the operation lean and pass those savings straight to you as a flat written price. To be clear, we are not a broker shopping your job to the lowest bidder — Economy Movers owns the trucks and employs the crew. You pay less because we cost less to run, not because we cut corners.
How does your pricing work?
You get a flat written quote before we lift anything. Local moves run on flat bands by home size — roughly $260 to $420 for a studio up to $1,820 to $2,750 for a four-bedroom house — or $99/hr for a two-mover crew and truck if you prefer hourly. Long-distance moves start at a binding $1,490. Whatever we quote is what you pay, as long as the inventory and access match what you told us.
Do I need to pay a deposit to book?
Yes, a $79 deposit holds your date on our calendar, and it comes straight off your final total — it is not an added fee. New England weekends and May move-out season fill up quickly, so locking your spot early gets you the date you want.
What is included in the price?
For local jobs the rate covers the truck, the crew, and all the standard gear — moving blankets, dollies, hand tools, and shrink wrap. Loading and unloading labor, basic furniture disassembly and reassembly, and released-value coverage are part of the job. There are no separate charges for stairs, long carries, or fuel. Packing materials and full-pack service are quoted separately if you want them.
Can you pack for me?
Absolutely. We offer full packing, where we box up the whole place with our own materials, or partial packing if you just want help with the kitchen, the closets, or the fragile stuff. Tell us what you want covered and we will fold it into your flat quote.
For a long-distance move, does one crew handle it start to finish?
Yes. The crew that loads your home in New England is the same crew that drives the truck and carries the last box into your new place. There is no van-line handoff, no transfer to a stranger at a warehouse, and no boxes sitting in storage for two weeks. One team, one truck, one binding price.
How are my belongings protected?
Every move includes released-value protection at $0.60 per pound per item at no extra cost. If you want fuller coverage, full-value protection — which covers repair or replacement value — is available for an added fee and must be chosen before the move. We carry cargo coverage up to $1,000,000 per shipment and are fully bonded and insured.
Are you licensed?
We are. Economy Movers holds US DOT and MC authority for interstate moves plus a Massachusetts Department of Public Utilities household-goods license for in-state work. We are bonded, insured, and registered to operate across all six New England states, and we keep every credential current.
Are you a broker or a matching service?
No, and this matters. Economy Movers is the moving company. We own our trucks and employ our uniformed crews — Brian's crew works for us. We do not collect your information and hand it off to a network of carriers or shop your move around. Affordable, yes; broker, never. When you call us, you are talking to the people who will actually do the move.
Do you really cover all of New England?
Yes — all six states. We run trucks throughout Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, Vermont, and Maine from our base in the Boston metro. Boston, Worcester, Providence, Hartford, New Haven, Manchester, Nashua, Portland, Burlington, and everywhere in between are all on our regular routes.
Will you move in winter, with snow and ice?
We move year-round, nor'easters and all. New England winters are part of the job here, so the crew comes prepared with proper footing, salt, and floor protection, and we watch the forecast to time the load and the drive safely. If a storm makes a move genuinely unsafe, we will work with you to reschedule at no penalty.
Can you handle a college move-out?
That is one of our busiest seasons. Every May the crew is out at Harvard, MIT, BU, BC, Northeastern, Brown, Yale, and UVM hauling dorm and apartment loads down narrow stairs and out of permit-only streets. Because the rush is intense and dates pile up, book your move-out as early as you can to lock the day.
Do you move pianos and other heavy or specialty items?
Yes. Uprights, baby grands, gun safes, large antiques, and heavy stone or marble pieces are handled by crew who move them regularly with the right straps and dollies. Specialty items start at $299 and we will include the exact figure in your written quote.
How far ahead should I book?
Two to three weeks of notice is comfortable for most moves and gets you your pick of dates. For end-of-month moves, summer weekends, and the May college rush, give us as much lead time as you can — those slots go first.
